These designs are engraved in wood by Randy Miller and printed directly from the woodblock by the artist. Randy offers an original work of art, in the exact size of the hand-engraved woodblock.

The surface of the block is sanded perfectly flat and smooth, and stained black before the engraving begins. When engraving into the surface, the light color of the wood is exposed, and the contrast guides the progress of the engraving.

Randy’s wood engravings are printed on Welsh basingwerk, a beautiful cream-colored paper. The fine smoothness of this paper allows for clear impressions of the engraving’s delicate lines.

Randy Miller’s prints are numbered in Editions of 200, further editions denoted by a Roman numeral “II,” “III” and so on. This allows for continued functional use of an extremely scarce and valuable wood. Each print is signed, titled and numbered in pencil by the artist.

The end-grain surface of boxwood is engraved using steel burins or gravers. Boxwood is a hard, dense wood able to withstand the enormous pressure of the press. Many hundreds of impressions may be taken without loss of quality.
